Platinum Benefit Group
Unsolicited charges to my account and difficulty untangling myself from their services, ripoff!

I was solicited for a Platinum Benefit Group card on 10-25-02. At the time I had been trying to get a credit card, so assumed that this was a call from a legitimate business. I trustingly gave out my information, in the hopes that I would finally have a credit card so I could build my credit.

When I received my packet I was disappointed to find it was for a prepaid card, not the credit building Mastercard or Visa I had hoped for. I never activated the card, or any of the services. I never used the services, or sent back a signed confirmation.

In my mind it was a done deal. I forgot about them and went along my merry way until one day I received some mail several months if not a year or so later saying that the company had changed hands. I thought to myself that I should not be getting this notification for a card I do not have.

So I called the number listed, explained to the individual that I did not have nor did I want an account. He wasn't very helpful, and I allowed myself to be put off. Again it faded from my memory and I continued life as usual. Recently I started noticing charges from Platinum Benefit Group on my bank statements.

So I called the number on their website, which proved useless. Eventually I got ahold of someone by calling the 1-800-331-7020 listed with the company name on my bank statements. I was told that the charges to my account were for all of my medical benefits etc. That came with my account.

She also told me that I was eligible for the benefits regardless of use of or activation of the card. I told her I would like the charges reversed and that I had already spoken to someone about the fact that I did not want these services. She agreed to send me a form to dispute the charges.

I will let everyone know if I receive anything from these people, and if possible I will upload a copy of the form sent to see if anyone can determine if it is legitimate.

If anyone knows what my best course of action is for regaining the funds that have been seeping out of my account to these people, I would greatly appreciate it.
