Compass Bank
Unacceptable customer service, ripoff

I know there are many other complaints about the NSF policy of Compass Bank. I have dealt with this first hand and have been ripped off as well. I fully understand the fees and policies of this business, but am taken back by their lack of customer service.

My experience consisted of an unauthorized hold on my account which causes an overdraft when a check was presented for payment. I'm not going to go into all of the logistics of the NSF and that stuff because it was a third party error.

My concern and disgust stems from the lack of customer service I received from the "Bank" in trying to deal with the unauthorized charge. Though my account was never debited it caused problems on a whole other level. Every time I spoke with the customer care representative on the 800 line I encountered some of the most rude and ugly representatives I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with.

In the course of trying to discuss the problem with my account and my concerns I was continually interrupted and told that I was wrong though the representative refused to actually hear what the situation really was. I was yelled at and hung up on by one representative in particular. But it wasn't limited to that.

When I called the local branch to try to come to a resolution I was told one thing just to be called back and told another that totally nullified the first actions I had been advised to take. Then, once again, I was told that I was the one at fault.

You know, I can deal with an NSF that really is not my fault if this is the only way a bank can make its money on a free account. But, I cannot tolerate customer service representatives who are belligerent. I have a problem believing that a company would rather loose my business and that of everybody I know in order to keep $36.00.

As a former bank worker myself and customer care associate I find it also hard to believe that the substandard level of customer service which appears to be acceptable at Compass Bank would be tolerated at any level by any company trying to gain customers and retain those they currently have. I know the customer is not always rightbut some times you do have to deal with them civilly in order to keep their business!

The convenience presented by the location of this bank is completely nullified by their ill-tempered customer service representatives. I would rather drive across town and wait 2 hours in traffic to get to my home bank than to suffer having to ever speak to another person from Compass Bank.
