Ripoff excessive collections calls and outrageous interest fees

I have had a CLOSED account with Capitol one for almost 4 years now. The original limit was 200.00. I defaulted and paid what I could on this, by now the 200.00 has been paid and long gone.

I have been over time charged 800.00 in interest!!!
At this point Capitol One has harassed me with calls on a daily basis, the last of which a stern collections person prompted to get nastier and nastier with me when I told her there was no need to call me every day, my information had not changed in 24 hours-I have been at the same address and number for 8 years. Clearly I am not dodging phone calls, but how can it be legal to
rip me off 800.00 in interest alone???

Is this legal??? I can't see paying them this money for nothing when my balance was already paid! To this she replied as a threat-"Well you better get a lawyer!" To which I told her to get her information together before she called me and read her own notes before they harass me by calling me on 800.00 dollars interest and hung up. Is there any consumer law to protect you from these crazy fees on your credit or DAILY phone calls to collect?
I cannot pay these fees, I make very little and support 3 kids alone, I have other obligations.

Even despite their generous 0% interest on the already 800.00 dollars interest (is this a joke???) Can they charge interest on interest alone and no principal? Can I file bankruptcy for this to get them off my back before consumer laws change? I want this gone and it seems like AOL-Capitol One is also a parasite no consumer can be rid of. Please if there is any legal advice from anyone out there before resorting to one of these credit cleanup agencies or bankrupt clauses (they retain their debt, to not send to outside collections-this way you are forever liable for this debt).

Please tell me if I can get out of this ever it is infuriating and very tiresome to have calls all day 3-4 times a day, on the weekends, at dinner time at 8 am - there has to be a law against this harassment. And if they choose to persue me legally for 1000.00, can they? Is it worth their time at all?
Please tell me how I can protect myself Capitol One are vultures!!! They are unethical and should be closed down!!!
