After I read about the other mortgage broker ripoffs on your website, I thought I should tell mine. I got a letter from David Hill from American Benefit Mortgage Inc dated September 11. They told me to make only a 5 minute call and they would do the rest. Well, I called David Hill because I wanted to refinance my house because they seemed to offer a good deal.

When I called him, he had no time for me, so he passed me off to this incompetent woman, Valentina. I faxed the information she requested and called for two weeks with no responses. Then about mid November I had been sent something that was unrecognizable from the truth. I called her supervisor, Jeff, to complained about her and learned she had been fired. I feel bad about it, but it was a ton of money. However, one thing she did get right was that I was not to be charged for an appraisal or a credit report. This figures prominently later on.
I was then passed on to Jeffrey Watkins. The information sheet he then put together was like reinventing the wheel, little to nothing was recognizable from reality. A series of faxes went back and forth trying to correct these inaccuracies. My final fax was sent on February 20 and I thought we were all set for closing on Saturday, February 23.
I got the document to look over and fortunately I had just read the consumer complaintss about the person who was ripped off in Scottsdale, Arizona by The mortgage broker who works for Approved Mortgage Corporation and the real estate agent from Realty Experts who ripped off the hispanic family. This got me very concerned because I am in the greater Phoenix area also.
After checking the AZ Corporation Commission I learned that the address for this company in Arizona does not accept correspondence and that the Statutory Agent, William Jury, also does not accept mail at his address: 2600 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85004-3020. Furthermore, the Annual Report was delinquent. Any one of these by themselves may not have been that big a deal, but with the accumulative effect, I decided not to close on the deal.
I got a call from Jeffrey Watkins advising that I check out the Better Business Bureau, which makes this all doubly ridiculous because I had also read all the stories about the BBB not being what it claims. Just as an experiment, I thought I would check out Westgate Mortgage that was listed in the other report about Mr. Jakobs, the mortgage broker. The report claims that there was a complaint made to the BBB. I wasn't sure if it was about Approved, Coppertree or Westgate, so I checked all three. Guess what, they all have good ratings. How could that be when they have been reported and there is not final outcome.
I went over my papers with a fine tooth comb and found several errors even by Jeffrey Watkins. Something else that really disturbed me is that I paid for an appraisal and have been asking for it for about 4 months and Jeffrey keep putting me off. It is my appraisal, I paid for it and they are not sending it to me. I demand that they refund my money for that because they have drug this whole process out so long that the appraisal is only good for a few more weeks.
Here's the clincher. Jeffrey got aggravated about the situation and claimed that I did not let the fax pick up. As it turned out I did not answer my phone, but my fax is on another line. He has been faxing me for several months and couldn't track the records of my numbers. That's sad!

$300 for the appraisal.
$475 for my time.
$200 for my aggravation.
$975 Total
Justification: I have to start the whole process all over again, because of their incompetence and misrepresentation. (It is misrepresentation if you don't tell the whole story!)
