In the spring of 2004 my husband had a medical emergency which required 3 operations, he was off work for 3 months. I worked full time and could keep everything up to date other than our house payment. I notified AMC about the situation and begged them to work with me on our payments. They outrightly refused. I sent what little I had but I was unable to pay what needed to be paid. We were nearly in foreclosure, almost 90 days, when we received an inheritance. We were able to get our mortgage caught up and avoided foreclosure.
A few months ago I noticed on my mortgage loan statement an entry for expenses paid by AMC in the amount of $10, so I called and was told it was because my insurance company had requested they do a "drive by" to make sure we were maintaining our property since we had been delinquent on our payment. And that they had done 3 "drive bys" so far.
I immediately called my insurance agent of the past 15 years, who told me he had never heard of such a thing and would never be involved in such an act. I recalled Ameriquest who when confonted with what I was told, said I was lucky the amount on the bill wasn't $2000 or more since they were trying to recoup the lawyer fees from our delinquentcy. I demanded they send me an accounting of what this charge was for, but to date haven't received any accounting for the charge. I could have accepted this charge had I been informed. There was never any mention of charging us lawyer fees since we never really got into foreclosure. So I really don't know what they are charging me for.
I have noticed the charge still is occurring and they now taken to calling me the first week of the month demanding payment although late fees aren't assessed until the 16th. They use terms like, "don't you want to be responsible and make your payment today?". Our payments have been current for the past 6 months, nothing late.
Today they called again, and the young man announced who he was and told me this call maybe recorded for quality control. So I asked his permission to record him also, which he said ok. I then restated for the 2nd time in 1 week that I did not want phone calls UNTIL the payment was indeed late.
I'm considering whether I should file charges with the PA Attorney Generals office, or just what I should do. Has anyone else had them add charges on their billing? Or call BEFORE the payment is late? I've never heard of such a thing!
I read many articles on this website and can relate to the appraisal stuff. I'm so sorry I ever got involved with this company. Until our credit score improves we are stuck with these white collar bandits! My advice to anyone who wants it... If you can't get a home loan from someone local, you really don't want a home loan from these impersonal faraway mortgage companies! They couldn't care less if you stay in your home or not! I feel they smelled blood at our situation and were coming for the kill! Only God heard my prayers!
