I've been an American Express customer for almost 14 years and have paid like clockwork. Back in April of I inadvertently forgot to make a payment... Which I remembered to do so a couple of days later. I get a letter in the mail stating they're raising my APR from 10% to 27%. I call AMEX and they say it's an automated letter that goes out and they'll go ahead and change my APR back since I've been a loyal customer.
I recently switched jobs where I travel a lot now and I'm sometimes traveling abroad.in October I missed my payment by one day and again another letter gets sent out. I call and AMEX said they would reduce my APR back to normal and let me know I could put my status in traveling mode as to help with any delays. I graciously thanked the operator and took note of this since I am embarrassed this even happened. I just happened to log in today to see my APR was still at 27% almost three months later and immediately called AMEX again. I spoke to one girl who said she can get her supervisor for me and I thanked her. Her supervisor's name is BARBIE Employee # 38802. She got on the phone and was very rude and tried to over-talk me everytime when I was explaining what was happening. She said I could close my account if I'm not satisfied and didn't care she is losing a loyal customer of AMEX for years.
Amex might care they're losing a customer that has spent well over 175k in charges with them... But it's very disappointing to not be a valued customer of theirs.
Time to open another card and through social media, try and dissuade anyone else from using AMEX.
