Fortunately, I did not come into contact with this company due to a debt of my own. My sister in law owed some debts because a business she owned went under. She had been doing her best to clear it up, but still owed a hefty chunk. She was killed in an accident on Christmas Eve (just two weeks ago). She had been dealing with these slimeball pukes at VCS.
5 Days after she died, we had her wake. During the wake, the funeral director approached all of us and told us that a family member was on the telephone and needed to speak with a family member. My mother in law took the call. Kevin from VCS proceeded to berate my mother in law, the mother of the deceased, about the debt.
He notified my mother in law that the "personal" part of the debt was washed with her death, but that the family needed to take care of the other half tied to the business and it needed to be taken care of immediately. Understandably, my mother in law was in shock already from the death of her daughter and now this jerk was on the line harassing her for the debt. She asked Kevin if it was really prudent of him to be calling the day of the wake when she and many friends and family were saying goodbye to the deceased and he said "well I'm sorry to hear about that but this debt needs to be paid and now you are responsible". She took his information and ended the call.
The funeral director then called back and spoke to Kevin's supervisor, who refused to give his name. After being ripped a new one by the director, this brave supervisor from VCS denied that any of this had taken place and that we were lying! He said he was on the other line of the call and heard the whole thing. The funeral director THEN started to get heat from VCS about the debt and this set him off. The director suggested that the local news will be contacted for this tactic and that they should be ashamed of themselves. This brave prick from VCS THEN said the following to the funeral director "Who are you to tell me I should be ashamed. Look at the job you do!"
Suffice it to say, VCS knows well and good they are out the entire amount of the debt. Once my sister in law died, the debt went with her and we are not responsible. We are weighing options right now with going public, and have reported VCS/VIking COllection Services to the Better Business Bureau. I am sorry that ANYONE has to deal with these scumbag pukes. While I wouldn't wish the pain we have suffered these past two weeks on anyone, I wish Kevin and his boss and the owner of VCS himself could understand the pain this death and subsequent dealing with VCS has caused us. It wasn't bad enough we lost a beloved family member on Christmas Eve to a terrible accident, but then to have these pricks call and make it worse is reprehensible and without forgiveness.
Of course, I wouldn't mind 5 minutes alone in a room with Kevin and his boss.
