I too got a letter in the mail saying I was pre-approved for a First National card with a credit limit of 6500 dollars with no interest rate. Without hesitating and thinking, I thought it was great and I called right away to activate my card. I was on the phone with the operator for about an hour just to activate my card. They told me about the 200 dollar "membership" fee.
Right after I activated the card I looked the company up real quick on the computer. There was no web address for them, so I googled them, and I found all these usacomplaints.com. I thought to myself, how could I do something like this, I usually catch these sort of things. I'm a college student, so it looked really good to me right away without thinking.
The only thing that went through my mind was that they had my checking account number. The next day I went to my bank and told my bank manager what had happened, he was very cool and alright with it and said we needed to close that account and make a new one. So we did that, but he told me to still keep a lookout at my account.
It's been a couple weeks now and nothing has been taken out of my account, so it should be good. But, I do know that if there is a withdrawl that I did not do, it's them, and this time what they're doing is completely illegal.
Some other things I found out is that their dangerous level with scamming from a scale of 1 to 10 is 8, so they are VERY dangerous. If you get something from them, throw it away. If there is no VISA, Mastercard, etc. Logo on the card, it's no good. Do not do business with these guys, they're bad people. If you found this after activating the card, go to your bank as soon as you can and close your account and make a new one, so far that has worked for me and they were supposed to withdrawl the 200 dollars from my account a week ago, but it never happened since I changed my account.
