Our mortgage has been sold twice since its conception in April 1996. Finally it landed in the hands of National Loan Investors (NLI). NLI from the onset never sent us receipts or payment coupons. I had to call them several times before they finally began to mail them both.
My husband and I were behind on our payments and eventually went into foreclosure. Prior to going into foreclosure, we tried to negotiate with NLI by offering to send half payments in bi-weekly. Also, although we were three (3) months behind, we offered to send in what we had at the time (more than one payment), but they refused the offer. NLI turned us over to their attorney.included in the attorney's fees and costs were: payments, deferred interest, late fees, title exam and legal fees. During this period, NLI telephoned us constantly, leaving messages on our answering service - - some threatening! We would return the calls and they would say they didn't hear from us. (Fortunately, we kept records of our phone conversations and messages left with them.) We asked NLI where to send the attorney fees; they told us to send the payments to them (via adding them on to our monthly payments).
Our principal balance is more now than when we first got the original loan. We have a strong sense that something is not quite right with this company and would appreciate any help we can get! Signed, Trapped!
