I received a call from "Mark Taylor", phone number 760-483-3768. Wouldn't tell me what firm he was with and could not give me any information about the loan that I supposedly defaulted on; said he didn't have my collection records in front of him. "Mark" had a very strong accent, would guess from the middle east. Definitely not hispanic.
He told me a lawsuit had been filed and that a sheriff would be at my place of employment within 1 1/2 hours; that was 3 hours ago. He told me I owe over $800 and that after court and 3 months in prison, I will owe over $8,000. Also told that they instructed the sheriff to freeze my bank account.
"Mark" was rude and spoke in a taunting tone of voice... What puzzles me is that he wasn't asking for money; I wasn't offered an opportunity to pay in order to stay out of jail but maybe I just didn't give him a chance.
I have used payday loan services but this one did not sound at all familiar and I have not defaulted on those loans that I have received. My bank records go back to 6 and I did not recieve funds from this company or, if I did it was prior to 6 and I don't remember. If legite, can't imagine why I never received any kind of collection letters or calls from them previously.
Like others have reported, they knew my bank info, place of employment, last four numbers of my SS# and have both home and work phone numbers. To be on the safe side I stopped all deposits into that bank account!
