I was involved in a car accident one month ago. The lady who hit me was at fault, and she was insured with Allstate. My car went into the shop about four days after the accident, and they put me in a rental with Enterprise. Three weeks after the car had been in the shop, the body shop called me and said the car was ready, so I went over there and discovered that my car was in fact not ready. My bumper was still broken in half; all they had done was tack it back up.
I went into their office and complained and told them they would not get payment until my bumper was fixed, and that is when they told me that Allstate did not pay to have the bumper replaced. I called Allstate, and they said they would get the problem resolved. So I told the owner of the shop and also told them to call me once it was done, because the car needs alignment work and I will call someone to tow it, since I cannot drive it. The tire sounds like it is ready to fall off, and the wheel was locking up on me.
Today I got a call from Enterprise saying that they are taking legal action against me because they have not had a payment in 11 days. From the first time they said my car was done, Allstate put "complete" in the system, so the rental payment stopped. My car never made it to the alignment shop, and my bumper still was not repaired.
I called Allstate, and they said to turn in the rental until they get everything straight and to go pick up my car, because someone made a mistake in the system and they would not be able to get it fixed until the next week. I brought the rental back, and Enterprise said that if they did not get payment in full before I walked out the door, I would be immediately turned over to collections and would no longer be able to rent from Enterprise in the United States again. I could not pay it, so I called Allstate back and spoke with a supervisor, and he apologized and said he would come to my house personally and do a re-inspection to bring my car back to the shop again.
Meanwhile, I am no longer able to get an Enterprise rental, it has been turned over to collections, and on top of all of that, I have a car that I cannot drive because my driver wheel is about to fall off. The body shop told me from the get-go that they can only do body work and do not do alignments, but they charged for an alignment and also added that there was nothing wrong with the steering or anything like that (how can they do that if they are not an alignment shop?). I feel that I am getting nothing but the run-around and am not sure what to do at this point besides consult a lawyer. Allstate Claims is a total joke.
