Midland Mortgage
Constantly Changing Past-Due Amount and Hang-Ups on FHA Loan

GMAC sold our mortgage to Midland Mortgage in November. In all my life I have not dealt with a company so cold, so reluctant to answer its phone or accept payment. Every day I call to talk about a workout arrangement, and I have offered cash toward a forbearance plan that they proposed themselves. The figure they ask for keeps shifting, and lately they end the call on me after bouncing me between one clueless service representative and the next.

My only questions were the balance we owe on our home and how far behind they say we are. First they gave us one number. Then they said money was sitting in our escrow, so we would owe less. When it was time to wire the payment, the number had risen by 3,000. Nobody could explain it. We are now days away from losing our home. We have the money ready, but we fear it will not be credited, leaving us without both the money and the house.

The news is full of stories about assistance programs and banks being expected to help families stay in their homes. Somebody needs to relay that to Midland. In my opinion, it should be against the law for a company to hold your mortgage and refuse to service it as required. Part of me wants to give up and hand them the house, since they will not answer a single question or state an accurate amount. But that would only hurt me.

I am sure we are not the only ones. Ours is an FHA loan, and surely rules exist that they must follow. All of this is hard to believe, and I cannot see how they stay in business. I would gladly join a lawsuit.
