I live in Alaska and subscribed to DirecTV in October. I did not subscribe to HD TV, but because I am an Alaska resident, I was required to rent the HD equipment. I understand that Alaska has special satellite needs in order to receive the product.
I noticed on my last bill that DirecTV charged me for the HD subscription even though I am unable to receive the channels. I went back and reviewed my statements and saw that they had charged me all along. When I contacted customer service, I was told that they could only remove the charges for this month (February), since that is when I noticed the error, and that it was MY responsibility to notify them of their error sooner, so I would have to pay for the incorrect billing.
I then sent an email to their customer service and received an email from "Josephine." She pretty much said that because I have the equipment, I must pay for the service even though I do not receive the channels.
I want to know if any other Alaskans have experienced this practice. I do not believe that consumers should pay for a service they do not receive.
