About six weeks ago, I went to the Petco in Verona, NJ, to purchase litter liners. While there, I looked at the price of their Wellness Cat Canned Food. The cost was significantly higher than what I pay at my local pet food store, and I mentioned that to the manager. He said he would call the store I shop at and check the price, and he did. I pay $36.99 per case versus Petco's $44.99 per case. Given that I buy five cases per month, the price difference is significant.
The manager told me I needed to bring in a receipt, which I did, and told me to save my Petco receipt and they would honor the price match. They honored the price match twice. When I went to purchase a case this weekend, I was told I needed a receipt again to match the price. I told the cashier to tell the manager that if I was going to get a receipt, which meant I would purchase cases at my local store, there was no point in shopping at Petco, because they were essentially not honoring the price match they promised. I told them I would not shop there again and would lodge a complaint, and there was no reaction.
I am now making good on that promise and will tell everyone I know about my experience at Petco. They are not reputable and do not honor their promises. I will take my business back to my somewhat inconvenient but honest local pet food store and give them $185 per month or more of my consistent business buying five cases of cat food and cat toys each month.
