The Royal Scam and the reason TimeShare Presentations are a waste of your time!
We were offered a "free" trip to Palm Springs if we were to listen to a 90 Minute Timeshare presentation. The only catch was we needed to put up a $50 dollar deposit for hotel taxes, and all excess monies would be refunded prior to the trip.
We sent in our monies and recieved our confirmation. The statement said "the accomodations utilized are economy class properties" We should have realized this was probably a red flag.
However prior to the date of our trip we were contact by CASABLANCA EXPRESS and encourage us to upgrade to better accomodations for only $48 more dollars. After a lengthy conversation we reluctantly sent in more money.
When we arrived at our hotel it was most definetly "economy" accomodations. Then just for laughs we decide to drive by the hotel we upgraded from, OH MY GOD. It was shut down, the place was boarded up and trash everywhere it was a home for transients and homeless that were living in the parking lot!
When we returned from our trip we called the company because we never received our refund from the $50 used for taxes. They told us that we were not entitled to any refunds, that since we upgraded the upgrade charge was $98 and that Casablanca would pay the hotel taxes.
So in closing we actually paid for our "free trip" and we probably could have got a better deal on a hotel by going to one of the websites that allow you to bid on hotels and saved ourself 90 minutes of our time.
