I am staying temporarily in an apartment waiting to move out of state. One night last week the neighbors were so noisy I went to a local motel for the night. I didn't take much, just some toiletries and my medication which included some powerful and very controlled narcotics. When at 5:30 A.M. I still hadn't managed to get any sleep I grabbed my stuff and left, forgetting my make-up case with some very expensive perfume, and my bag containing my medication. I remembered exactly where I had put it and several hours after getting home I realized I had forgotten it and instantly returned and was told that the maid had already cleaned and didn't find anything. I hadn't been anywhere except to the motel and remembering exactly where I had placed the items made it pretty obvious that someone had taken it. I told them they could keep the rest of it but to please return the drugs. Not only are these very expensive, they are also very hard to get and the doctors and insurance companies will not replace them if they are lost. So they aren't just impacting me financially, they are affecting my health drastically. Don't stay at a place you can't trust and this is one of those places.
