Our trip was scheduled for July 12th for 5 days, aboard the Carnival Ectasy out of Galveston. We should have known something was wrong the first night when all shore excursions were being cancelled. The ports of call were Cozumel and Progresso. It was understandable that Carnival stopped calls on these ports due to the swine flu scare. But many of the passengers from this boat now feel like Carnival knew before they left the dock that they were cancelling stops to Mexico. We should have been told before the ship sailed, and at least given the chance to get off the boat and get a refund.
We were told that they were looking for alternate ports of call, but this never materilized, and later we were told that we were on a 5 day cruise to no-where. When you book a cruise to no-where it's one thing, but to be suddenly told there would be no alternate ports and we were basically going to float around for 5 days is bad management. There should be some type of compensation, due to the fact that a lot of people spent big money on this trip and didn't get anything other than increased bar bills and gift shop expenses. All explanations were vague, and basically in a nice way they told us "tough luck". They gave us $40 in ship credit for the port charges for Cozumel and Progresso, this is ridiculous.
To make matters worse, on the way back in we were told that we would be back in port early because there was a sick person on board. (not swine flu)
I'm as sympathetic as the next person, but why couldn't this person have been life flighted back to Galveston? To end a cruise a half day early in this manner just adds insult to the fact that we floated around for 5 days, and got little or no explanations from Carnival. I am a platinum member, and have one more cruise with Carnival scheduled, but after that one no more.
