I came down from Dallas to visit my father here in Florida, with my little mini dachshund. Older, he wears a diaper indoors at all times. I have always used pet friendly hotels when traveling with him. So on our little road trip to Ft Myers we stopped to stay at this Holiday Inn Express here in Chiefland. It looked nice. My dad is about 80 (this month actually) and can't drive for long but I know how he loves to get out for a little trip.
He is still very bright but his memory is getting very bad and he is a lot slower than he used to be..in other words he missed words or misunderstands a lot of times when someone is talking too quickly to him. He often just agrees and goes on... It keeps his dignity. Since we alternately pay for meals etc. He wanted to check us in as he always has when we travel, and I let him. It's sort of the "mans" thing to do.
I knew that this place was pet friendly so I didn't worry about my having my dog with me.
Now I know smoking is a big deal to people and I am one of them. I will not stay in a smoking room. They smell, and I know people pay penalties for doing so. But I have NEVER asked for a hypoallergenic room that NO ANIMAL has ever been in. Nor did I know that they exist. So my Dad apparently signed a condition upon staying here that you can't smoke in a nonsmoking room AND you can't have a dog in a non - doggie room or they will charge $200 to your credit card for cleaning after check out.
NOW, my father is a former Navy pilot and has traveled ALL over the world. He does not and would not lie about my little dog just so we could stay in a non doggie room. Remember now, they are a pet friendly hotel. They have doggie rooms. Dad just didn't say anything. I walked my dog a bit and went into our room. Then,
We left my little doggie diapered as usual in the room after check in and went to eat. We were gone about 1 hour maximum. When we came back the manager had locked us out of our room. So after going to the front desk we were told that my Dad's charge card would be charged the $200 because he lied and said we didn't have a dog. I said, first, "my dad is not a liar"... Change us to a doggie room.
He said they would still charge us because they had to totally flush the room, clean the carpets and air out the mattresses due to dog dandruff in the room. I have never felt so completely ripped off by someone in my life. 280 dollars for one night in a HolidayInn Express. Geez... It goes on and on but I don't have enough time in my life to explain how ridiculous this place is. If you are older, if you have a dog and a credit card... Do not come here. It is a money making scheme.
Next time you want a really clean room... Ask for a hypo-allergenic room... Free of dust and animal dandriff. If you find one, then may I suggest that YOU pay the $200 for the room. Not me.
