South Padre Resort Rentals, Inc
Rip-off Scam by

My family spent 3 nights during March at the Sunchase IV Resort Condominiums at South Padre Island, Texas. Since that time, the rental agency has been sending different stories to my credit card account, attempting to receive an additional $270.57 over the amount charged when we checked out. I am disputing this charge. The first correspondence I received from my credit card company when I disputed the charge asked a lot of questions about the length of our stay, and seemed to suggest that we checked out earlier than our reservations called for. I forwarded to them copies of my reservation correspondence which clearly indicated that our reservations were originally made for 3 nights.in response, I received a letter from my credit card co. Stating that the charges would be removed.

Yesterday I received another letter from my credit card co. Requesting a response to a letter which South Padre Resort Rentals sent, alleging that during the course of my family's stay we had broken a tall floor lamp, and that the charge was for replacement of that lamp. However, I know that there was no damage dome by my family to a lamp or anything else in the condo we stayed in.in fact, when returning the key to the rental office on the morning I checked out, I was asked to wait while one of their staff went up to check out the condo. When that staff person called and said everything was okay, I was thanked and told that I could leave. No mention was made of any damage or any additional charges due to damage while I remained in the office. The charge hit my account 2 days after we checked out. If anybody broke that lamp (which I doubt), it was a member of their staff, definitely not my family.

I find it highly suspicious that the letter which South Padre Resort Rentals sent to my credit card attempting to reinstate the charge to my account was dated on its face "April 11",
even though it bore a fax legend dated June 14. Sounds to me like they made up the story about the lamp damage when it was pointed out that their initial allegations regarding the length of our stay being cut short was found to be a lie.

When the charge first hit my account, I had also sent an email to South Padre Resort Rentals inquiring as to the reason for the charge. I have never received a response to my inquiry - probably so they could keep their options open about the story they would tell.
