Imperial Majesty Cruise Line
2-night cruise rip-off, paid 1000$, declined to reverse 200$ on my credit card (even when everything was paid in cash)

I was introduced to Imperial Majesty Cruise Line by filling out a survey on the Internet in March which included participation in a 2-night cruise to Nassau, Bahamas.

I received a telephone call soon after from Imperial Majesty Cruise Line congratulating me as a winner to said cruise. Since I live in Canada, I was also offered a package deal for a 2-night stay at Orlando, Florida, as well as a 2-night stay at Fort Lauderdale, Florida before going on the cruise (6 days in total), hotels and meals included (had to pay taxes and gratuity which I was not informed of). I was also offered a Bonus Vacation which was valid until Aug. 31, for 2 nights in Las Vegas and 3 nights in Puerto Vaillarta, both of which I later declined after discovering that the whole thing is a scam.

Before our departure from Montreal, Canada on Sept. 1st, I had made several telephone calls, many being to Imperial Majesty Cruise Line itself, to obtain all pertinent information to our trip in order not to have any surprises. Nevertheless, we ended up paying 1000$ on plane tickets alone, not to mention several hundreds of dollars for transfer to and from the airports. Fuel surcharge told to us as $20/cabin ended being $30/person. I should also mention that this happened to be a time share vacation which I was never told at the time of reservation. Upon arriving at our Orlando hotel, I had no choice but to accept to go to a presentation in order not to have to pay for my hotel which I was told it is covered in the first place.

Upon our return to Canada on Sept. 7th, I called Imperial Majesty Cruise Line Customer Care and requested a refund. I was told that it had to be in writing and addressed to the Compliance Dept., which I did, on Sept. 22, as well as mentioning a worthless tour in Nassau which cost us an arm and a leg ($49/person) and my husband being handicapped, was very uncomfortable in the so called limousine which was anything but. I received a response from them one week later, informing me that a $200 good will credit would be issued to my credit card (I had specifically requested a check in my letter) and that I would receive a $60 check for fuel surcharge.

On Oct. 14, I wrote again to Imperial Majesty Cruise Line, asking that they reverse the $200 credit and issue a check instead because I can't do anything with a credit unless I buy a product (my credit card is maxed). When not receiving any news, I called again on Nov. 7th and was informed that said letter was not in their file and that as far as they were concerned, the file was settled which is untrue. I was also told to fax said letter to them. Two weeks later, I'm told that my request is declined and they cannot issue a check without giving any explanation whatsoever. What difference should it make to them since they supposedly agreed to give me a credit anyways.

This is another scheme on their part in order to rip off people. It is probably easier and advantageous for them to issue a credit than to pay in cash. I have not used my credit card whatsoever on this trip because it was maxed so I had to pay everything in cash so why is it they are sending me a $60 check for fuel surcharge but a $200 credit for my troubles? This does not make sense and is not right!

Can something be done about this? Can Imperial Majesty Cruise Line get away with this? The person on the other line was being very evasive about the whole thing and refused to cooperate.
