On 16th May we made reservation for six nights from 19th - 25th of August with confirmation Nr. 23179-2030478 through the Hostelbookers the deposit was 62.06Euros by credit card. We also re-confirmed the booking to the hotel in New York by phone a few days later.
When we arrived at the hotel on 19th August at 22.30 approx. There was no reservation for us. The receptionist claimed that there was no reservation or deposit under my name. After the receptionist contacting the supervisor, called Denise, we were informed that the Hostelbookers were responsible for the problem and she didn't answer her phone again.
Finally at about 02.30 am we were sent to a hotel to spend the night. The next morning we phoned and informed us that it was the Hostelbookers fault.
(we should mention that:
1) the same company had made a reservation for us in San Francisco as well, with no problem and
2) other customers at the Royal Park Hotel had already pre-paid the whole amount of money for their stay but there was no room available because of plumbing problems which had apppeared the previous morning and they had to spend the night at the lobby).
As a result, we spent:
instead of 620.64 (deposit 62.06), we paid $ for the hotel we stayed in
$83. Oo for the taxi from the airport to the RP Hotel
$50.00 for the taxi from the RP Hotel to the Walkot Hotel
We e-mailed our complaints to the Hostelbookers but nobody took responsibility.
We are asking for a full refund. Who is responsible for the whole mess, extra expenses, physical and mental distress which almost ruined the last days of our holiday? What should we do to make sure that it won't happen to anybody again (young students mostly, who book with them)?
