Refused to refund debit card payment, which is actually a mastercard

I am one of the many people who purchased an airline ticket before Skybus went out of bisiness. I purchased with my debit/Mastercard Account. They will refund credit cards but not Debit cards. I don't understand how they can refuse to refund when the Debit card is a mastercard.
