We were ripped off from the very beginning with this place. We had first taken a trip to Orlando through the Ramada Vacation packages and had been given a voucher for another trip to stay at Calypso Cay Resort for a week at $1200. Upon staying the next year we were required to attend a sales meeting for the resort.
During the meeting we explained several times that we were not able to afford purchasing ownership. It took about 2 hours and 3 people after we said no for them to start making additional promises like, if we decided later that we did not want to keep it, they would just simply resell it for us, they do it all the time.in fact, we were told that we could not sell it on our own, we had to call them first so they could sell it for us. We were also told that we must finance through them initially, but every bank will finance a timeshare - IT'S REALESTATE!
We ended up purchasing the most basic package and after they kept coming down on the price and assuring us that we can just simply resell it through them. The salesman even gave us his private cell number to call if we had any problems. Because we were given such a "good deal" he advised us that we should not talk about the purchase price with other guests, or they could get upset about the good deal we were got.
After the trip and we were home for a couple of days I decided to contact them and cancel it. When I called them they stated that was not possible, we had 10 days from the date of sale to send them the request in writing. It had been 12 days at that point.By the way, of that 10 days, 6 of them were while we were still on vacation. I then told them that we wanted them to resell it for us as we just could not afford it. They said they never resell the property and can deny us the right to sell it as well. We called the sales man and he would never return our calls. Many fights were had on the phone.
Since they have denied us the right to even book a vacation because we did not request the week before the deadline and lost that year's reservation. We bought the property in 2005 and have never been able to stay there. They have told me several times that the only way out of the agreement is to default the loan, which would be disasterous to our credit. I want to contact a lawyer regarding this agreement and how we were completely misled.
