In late Feb. 2007 I reserved a room at the Glendale Gaslight Inn for Feb. 1,2, 3. I booked it 50 weeks in advance because the SuperBowl will be in town the same weekend I needed the room for. The owner, Paul Seabrook, assured me as he took my credit card information that my reservation was secure and I wouldn't have to worry about anything. Fast forward 5 months. Over a week ago I received a voicemail from the Glendale Gaslight Inn informing me "their Superbowl rates were now posted on their website & I could go online and book my reservation." Why would I need to book a new reservation when I already had one? Booked by the owner, himself, no less! I called back and spoke with a young woman who said someone would call me back. They never have. Another friend of mine did call, because she booked a room as well and was basically told sorry, nothing I can do to fix it.
The truth of the matter is, we booked our rooms for $140 a night, 50 weeks in advance. The same rooms are now listed on their website for anywhere from $499 - $1000 per night. Paul and Teresa Seabrook cancelled our reservations in order to coup the higher rate for the Super Bowl weekend. This is an outrage to me and my organization who now have 4 displaced out of town guests arriving for that weekend with no place to stay. Unless of course we want to pay $500 a night.
