I had the glorious pleasure (sike!) of staying in Beaumont, TX at the Ramada Limited after purchasing the room through Hotwire.com.
The hotel boasted of having clean rooms, free breakfast and effeciently located on Interstate 10. I was in town for a baby shower that was given in my honor from my husbands family (I am 8 months pregnant with twins). As I mentioned I purchased the room through Hotwire for 2 adults and 1 child. Upon arrival at the Hotel at around 11pm on May 28 I noticed that the adjoining property was a truck stop. Having watched Oprah the previous week I can only imagine what sort of luccid activity goes on here!
Anyhow upon check-in I walked into the hotel lobby that reeked of cigarette smoke. I approached the counter only to find a older man dressed in a dirty, sweat stained shirt, no name tag, greasy hair, unshaven face and dirty fingernails with a cigarette hanging out of his mouth, his pupils were also dilated giving the indication that he was high on drugs (I am in law enforcement). Gosh I thought at least he set the damn cancer stick down long enough to speak to me!
It was then that I was told that my room only had 1 Queen sized bed. I told the man that this is not what I purchased and asked to be accomadated to a room that would meet my parties needs. He stated no and that I would have to pay the difference in the room. I then asked to speak to a manager because this was not acceptable because the room I had paid for was supposed to accomodate 3 people.
He got on the phone and loudly explained that there was "Some" lady in the lobby "bitching" about the room. The conversation continued a few more seconds and he hung up. No manager ever came to the lobby to speak to me. He then stated that I would have to pay the difference or leave. He then demanded it in CASH. I was like I am not paying in cash. I will give you my credit card so I will have a receipt to complain to Hotwire to. He swiped my card and handed over the keys. I asked for my receipt and he stated there was no receipt to give. Being that it was sooo late I did not want to argue any further and went ahead to the room.
Well, when I opened that door, the smell of old musk, cigarette smoke and mold hit my nostrils (this was supposed to be a non-smoking room). I closed the door to see mold on the back of the door where the limited liability report is taped to the door. Upon further inspection of the room, I found hair in the shower area; a very dirty bathroom door (around the door knob), the water just shot out of the faucet because there was nothing to regulate its flow, mold spots on the shower curtain, a dead insect of some sort in the bed and a huge urine stain.
Knowing full well that the front desk clerk would not help nor the manager that he claimed he called, we all climbed in the bed together and tried to go to sleep. Well no one got any sleep that night because it felt like something was eating on us and crawling all over our bodies.
The next morning we got up at 7am and also noticed a booger smeared on the wall by the lamp. I went down to the front desk to complain only to encounter someone named MIKE claiming to be the manager and he was just as rude as the person the night before. We were told that if we didn't like our stay that we could leave. He then proceeded to call me a CRACK WHORE because I stated that person working the night before appeared to be under the influence of drugs. He then stated I was talking about his father. I then asked for my receipt. He claimed that my credit card was declined and there was no receipt to give. I stated that could not possibly be true because how would I have gotten my key last night? And furthermore he could not explain how he arrived at the total of the difference when asked. He stated he was not in the mood to figure it out.
We ended up calling the Beaumont Police Department for the verbal abuse and were told by the very nice officer that this hotel was visited very often by the prostitutes working next door in the truck stop and to stay far away from this hotel because it was not family oriented.
I contacted Hotwire who are looking into the allegations. I also contacted Ramada Corporate and they claim that they will be getting back to me in 7 days. So we will see. Please see my shocking pictures to prove this nasty unsanitary hotel.
