Hi, my name is Jacques Barnard and I am from Pretoria in South Africa. I was "sold" a dream holiday over the phone sponsored by Imperial Majesty Cruises, Ramada Plaza Resorts and others; similar to all the other complainants on this site. It sounded good over the phone but they did not offer any time for thought and planning.
My wife and I are expecting our first child during Jan and after reviewing our situation, decided that we would not be able to use the holiday; finances w.R.T. The exchange rate is also prohibitive. I therefore need to cancel it and obtain a refund but after reading the various accounts of how people have struggled with a similar issue, I am concerned that I have become yet another rip-off victim. Being in South Africa makes it difficult due to distance and exchange rates and therefore I request advice from anybody who may be able to point me in the right direction. Does the Florida State law allow me to cancel within 30 days and does this apply to my case too?
Although the salesman mentioned that I would be able to sell/transfer the tickets, I was not informed that cancellations and refunds were not done. How do I proceed? Do I need to contact the American Embassy here in SA for help?
