I received a call after attending the Vancouver Bridal Trends Fair. I had entered a contest upon entering the Fair.
The man on the other end told me they had been trying to get a hold of me for weeks and that I had won a trip. I knew he was lying right away because my profession requires I keep my phone on 24 hours and I have call display. I had received no strange calls prior to this. When I told him as much, he just told me that they don't leave any messages. (?)
As he was "verifying my information" I corrected him that I am not a member with Visa. He asked me why I checked it off then. I replied that I don't remember the situation and I carry Mastercard, not Visa. He berated me for checking off the wrong box!
By the time we got to the part where he was verifying my address, I was not feeling very trusting of this person. I told him I would call him back to give nim the address after I checked which one I should send it to. He responded "well how about if I just cancel the trip" and hung up.
I was pretty sure it was a con, so I wasn't too concerned that I "lost" the trip. I'm glad I found the phone number listed on consumer complaints.
