We searched the web, and Orbitz had a good offer for a car in Germany for three weeks. They even offered an Allianz policy to cover accidents. We paid for the insurance offered on Orbitz site and reserved the car. We actually contacted Orbitz by phone to make sure the rental car policy would be valid in Europe, this was confirmed. Everything sounded good. Once we come to the airport in Stuttgart, Dollar told us that they neither accept Allianz insurance nor our Visa card insurance and that we have to buy their insurance. They were not willing to discuss, either we pay for their insurance, or no car. So we bit the bullet. Price in the end more than twice of what Orbitz had on their website. Dollar in Stuttgart told us that Orbitz knows. We would have never booked (and never will again) Orbitz, because there are fully covered rentals from Germany where the total price (low deduct, full insurance, tires etc plus rental) was a lot lower than what we had to pay in the end. Orbitz knows all of this! A real scam.
