I live in Los Angeles and booked a 2 month job in NYC.
I needed a place to stay and went through the website Airbnb. I saw a cute place on their site in the area I was looking to stay and the description included: "It's up on the 4th floor and the bedroom is near to the back of the building to help shield you from the noisy street at night." This part of the description sealed the deal for me.
This could not have been further from the truth and in fact INSIDE the building it was even worse! Doors slamming, people screaming - thin walls. I had to sleep with a pillow over my head. I tried to get my money back from the host - but they wouldn't budge. I phoned and emailed Airbnb SEVERAL times over 4 days and was ignored or put off. They would mostly respond via email, not phone. They claimed that it was too bad that I was unhappy - too bad the property was misrepresented. They kept my deposit of the full 30 days - $3500.
