Outward Bound provides a wilderness expedition experience for different age groups designed to increase confidence and leadership skills.
After my son got into some trouble at school, I searched for a program that could help him become a leader rather than follower. I called Outward Bound and explained the situation to the phone counselor. He assured me that the program I was considering would be perfect for my son. I gave him my payment for the 3 week course which included a $100 nonrefundable application fee. The counselor told me they rarely turned anyone down and my son should not have any problems. I told the counselor why I wanted son in the program because of recent trouble at school.
After filling out lengthy questionnaire, I was contacted by another OB Counselor and questioned. Son was involved in a community service diversion program due to the school trouble and I was told he was not qualifed because of this.
I told the initial counselor the same thing and he did NOT disclose that this local program would disqualify him. DO NOT give OUTWARD Bound any payment information until you understand that you are accepted. I was told that son was IN and filling the "last slot" for his class.
I feel Outward Bound is guilty of misrepresentation and should NOT be allowed to charge this $100 just for me to send them an email and be told son is not qualified. Disqualification reasons should be disclosed UP FRONT
