Barona Casino Neglects Door Problems, Lead To Accident
"Not Liable." neglect, injury, accident, liable

This all happened about a week or so ago, me and my significant other were in Barona spending a little money, blowin' off a little steam, trying to have a little fun. We ended up not winning anything and defeated we started to leave the building.

The front door is a revolving door, that works on a light. If you the light sees you in front of it it stops, or starts however that goes. My boyfriend entered the door and it started moving, shortly after he entered the door it stopped, and I started inside the vestibule or whatever those things are called (the inside where you stand) and it started moving again. It ended up hitting me pretty hard in the chest and pinned me to the door. The blow from the door actually took my breath away and left my arm feeling numb.

My boyfriend, who had to reach back with his foot to keep the thing from moving, got hit by the door as well, and later had injuries to his back that kept him from work for a week because he could barely walk. We finally made it ouside, and asked the guy outside (who'd seen nothing apparently, good work at your job guy) if we could speak to security about the little matter that just happened. We returned back inside, and asked one of the employees inside if we could speak to a manager, or security or file a report. Meanwhile my arm and shoulder ached, and I was a little shook up.

For the next 30 minutes I got interrogorated by a bunch of people about the incident. THey asked me if I need to see some EMTs who were on hand at the site.

The EMT's came over, and looked at me and asked me a couple questions about what happened they told me the only thing they could do is give me a ice pack, there were 3 there. Two guys and one girl, the guy in the back who had a disqusted look on his face told me to "Make sure I never do that again" and they took off. We finished up the report, got a business card and left the building, my arm at this point was numb and still really sore.

When we returned home, my boyfriend and I took some pictures of the injuries to my body. I had a bump between the 2 bumps on my elbow and bruises on my body from where the door had hit me. At this point, we decided to call in the morning and contact someone concerning this cause we weren't happy about the whole situation.

In the morning, we contacted the woman who told us to return to the casino and pick up some forms about the injuries and file a claim. My boyfriend (who at this point could almost barely walk) returned that next morning and noticed that the door was borded up and blocked off so that nobody could enter. He returned home with forms in hand, and we filled them out and faxed them over to the appropriate parties. All the while the woman we contacted told us to "go to a doctor" without any health insurance, attached as well to the forms was a note basically saying "sorry you were injured, hope you feel better".

At this point in the story, my boyfriend could barely walk, he had a cane he was using just to get around the house and could do barely anything more than use the bathroom and sleep. He was employed and had to miss a week of work because his back was so out of wack. My arm was still sore and numb if I lifted it beyond shoulder level.

A woman from Tribal First (their insurance agency) contacted us probably a day or so later, telling us she had seen the tapes and wanted to tell us what was going on. Basically she said that it looks like I tried to squeeze into a very tight spot and that they so far didn't seem to be liable for what happened that night. That's not the case, she said that what she saw and what we said were 2 different stories, according to the tapes.

The door stopped, I tried to enter a normal amount of space and the door started up again. The door hit me very hard in the chest and trapped me, this isn't the first time this door actually gave us problems. A couple weeks earlier while inside the vestibule it stopped leaving us inside for several minutes until it started up again somehow. The fact that the day after they had the door boarded up proved that something was wrong.

This isn't really a ripoff, but it is a warning to anyone else who goes to Barona. Not only is it a gamble to go inside the casino but also to enter and leave, the fact of the matter is that we both received injuries because of THEIR door that they obviously haven't had repaired or looked at in a long time, and are powerless to do anything because A. We are new to the state and B. Have no health insurance. I'm sure in the future some kind of ramification will result of this, a week later I'm still in pain, and still have alot of numbness. The bump finally went away a bit but is still tender to the touch.

So stay away from Barona, start a media blitz. Let's get them down from their high horses. This is totally unfair and unjust, it's not that I'm trying to steal their precious money it's that I'm going to need to go to the doctor at some point. I'm going to need some kind of check up, this isn't right. The door hit me VERY hard, and injured both of us, making my boyfriend lose money from not working and leading to his job loss.

Thanks for reading.
