I'm been a member of Bodies since June 1997, then converted in October 1999 to a month-to-month payment contract. My contract is both "Platinum" and "Multi-Club Use". However, I can't use the club in West LA without paying an upgrade fee on my membership dues.
When I inquire, I'm told that "everyone had to upgrade." This is a ridiculous argument. The high-end clubs like West LA did not exist back in 1999 when I signed my agreement. If anyone at Bodies (like their lawyers) thought ahead, there should have been language in the agreement that clearly excluded their eventual usage. Multi-Club use, I was told, meant all Bodies-in-Motion gyms. Evidently, managment feels they can change the meaning of terms like "all" if it benefits them. When I argue the point, they don't budge, and hint of kicking me out. This is a class action suit percolating. Attorneys reading this will find legion of unsatisfied customers who hate Bodies in Motion and would be willing to join in a suit.
This is not shocking. Class action suits by a number of former employees, the "new locker rooms" in Pasadena that have been "coming soon" since 1999, classes taught by unqualified instructors... It's all the norm and not the exception at Bodies. How about the Xmas thru New Year 2004 closure of most clubs! The stated purpose: Renovations.in Pasadena, they put a coat of paint on the walls, and replaced shower heads. Hmmm. That's 8 hours of work for a crew of 4. It could have been done overnight.instead, the entire gym closed for one week. Why? To save overhead costs like staff, electricity, etc. I guess the owner needed a Xmas bonus. It's been estimated that he saved $100,000 in overhead by closing gyms during Xmas week, all at the expense and inconvenience of the customer.
