I was renting a town house from union realestate, we were there for a little over a year and a half, when the maintenance man showed us the place we rented the carpet was in bad shape, it was stained pretty bad and there was a flea problem, the maintenance man told myself and my wife that the carpet would be replaced before we moved in.
We went to the office and signed the lease payed our security deposit and first month and we had to pay more money for the carpet for when we moved out, I can't remember the amount but it was to cover what they had to do to the carpet after we moved out, they told us this in advance.
We moved in, the carpet looked great, after a few months we still had the flea problem, we rented a carpet cleaner and low and behold all the stains that we saw when we looked at the place reappeared, they dyed the carpet, they didn't replace it, I contacted the company they said it would be taken care of, It wasn't.
When we recieved our new lease we called the company to see if we could go month to month because we were looking to buy a house, Mary the manager for Union told us they wouldn't do that but when we found a house to send them at least a 60 day notice and we would work things out from there, so we signed the new lease, we found a house and gave them 4 months notice, Mary stated we couldn't break our lease, we even offered 3 extra months rent to get out of our lease, she turned that down, they didn't show our place, we even payed out of our own pocket to run an ad in the paper to find someone to sublet our place, we did everything she asked, we still moved because we closed on our house, I left the keys in a drawer where the maintenance man said to leave them, Union realestate sent us a bill for $2000.00 a year after we left for changing the locks because they said I didn't leave the keys and to replace the carpet because they said we ruined the carpet and for various other repairs, I called Mary and refused to pay it because they kept our security deposit and the carpet was supposed to be replaced befor we moved in, and because she went back on the verbal agreement we had before we signed the new lease, she never took us to court over it but now I am fighting to get a $2000.00 judgement removed from my credit report, we never went to court!
