Wizard Of Claws
Rip-off! Does not stand behind health guarantee

My husband had wanted a bull terrier puppy for a long time. I stumbled upon the Wizard of Claws website in October and fell in love with a tri-colored female bull terrier puppy. I paid the outrageous price of $1,700.00 (puppy and airfare to IL) thinking I had found a unique, one of a kind colored bull terrier that I just had to have (I have done my research now and have discovered that her coloring is not so unusual). Of course we fell in love with her as soon as she came off the plane and are still totally in love with her - she is our baby.

However, she was sick when she arrived. We thought it was a simple cough, but after expensive blood tests and medicine we realized it was a serious virus she had. Yes, she recovered, but she was at the vet at least once a month for the next 4 or 5 months getting blood tests because she was sick. She was not the healthy puppy Wizard of Claws assured me she was. She still has problems with her food digestion and always vomits water after she has taken a drink. She's a happy dog, though, and we wouldn't trade her.

My complaint with Wizard of Claws is that they agreed readily to refund my $124.00 vet bill (from the first round of blood tests) from Oct. but I still had not received a check as of Jan. 2004. Phone calls and emails got me nowhere. So finally I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). That got the attention of Wizard of Claws owner Jim Anderson. He sent a rebuttal to the BBB basically calling me an idiot and stating that I was trying to get my puppy for free. How does requesting a refund for a vet bill of $124.00 justify accusing me of trying to get my puppy for free? If anyone is an idiot it is Mr. Anderson.

I finally received a check in Feb. 2004 (luckily it didn't bounce) for $124.00, but I would never do business with Wizard of Claws again and I certainly wouldn't refer them to anyone I know. They never asked about the health of the dog; they were more worried about accusing me of trying to get a dog for free.

In all reality, our dog is better off with us than back at Wizard of Claws.in hindsight we believe she was drugged for the picture posted on their website. If anyone knows bull terriers (which we do now after owning one for a year), they do not sit still for any length of time and their eyes are normally bright and alert and they are always smiling. Also their ears stand up straight until they are reprimanded; than the ears fold backward. She looked glassy-eyed, unhappy and sedated in the picture. Her ears were folded backwards and her head was down. That was not normal for our dog. We know that now. We can just imagine how they are treated at Wizard of Claws. Not with the puppies' best interest in mind. I can guarantee that.
