In January of we hired All My Sons Moving & Storage to move us from an apartment in Beaverton, OR to one in Troutdale, OR. The movers arrived as scheduled, but one of them complained of arm and wrist problems, back problems, and other medical issues. The two-man crew took numerous breaks during the move, and worked very slowly because of the wrist and back complaints.
Obviously, the complaining crew member should not have been in this line of work, and the company should not have sent him out on the job. He worked so slowly, that I finally pitched in to speed up the process (and save us from going broke on the hourly charges). We even loaned the complainer a sweatshirt and coffee mug, which we didn't see back for several days after the move.
Both crew members spent a good portion of the move talking about the great gratuities they had received at other job sites, to the point that we felt obligated to give them something, even though we really couldn't afford it. Since we didn't have enough money to offer cash, we gave them some rather expensive stereo speakers we were no longer using, and a couple of small items from our storage.
The next day, I discovered that my two college graduation rings had disappeared from my nightstand drawer. All of our furnature had been sealed up with plastic wrap, but there was a loose board in the bottom of the nightstand that allowed some smaller items to fall out. My wife had seen the movers pocketing some change that fell out, but didn't know the rings were in that drawer. Not knowing about it, she didn't confront them about the change.
When we called the moving company, they claimed they checked the truck and questioned the crew, but found nothing. They refused to investigate further, and we had no way of proving the items were stolen. We had to make repeated phone calls to them to even get this lame answer. They were awful about returning voice messages.
We reported the theft to local law enforcement, but they didn't hold out much hope for finding the rings. We also filed with the local BBB, which is (in my experience) a waste of office space. Nevertheless, they received our complaint. All My Sons dodged out of the complaint because we had no documented proof of the theft.
The reason for my complaint with consumer complaints is to warn others away from using this company. The Portland office is dishonest, unhelpful, and doesn't care what the condition of the individual drivers is. They allow the crews to get away with long breaks and poor job performance, all for the sake of making more money. The main office in Maryland was useless in helping us with the local group.
The scumbags owe us over $1000 for the replacement of two college rings their crew stole. Do not use these guys to move your dog house, let alone your home!
