Yes, I know this is a complaint site and I'm sure I'll get all shorts of crap about how my review is fake. But I've been writing reviews about every little thing on Yelp long enough to know that when great people do great things, they deserve a shout out just like when a company really screws me over. I'm sorry if this violates any of the website's terms. I checked the terms of service and I don't think it does.
Anyway, my move with All My Sons Moving & Storage meant a lot to me. I used to move myself, and when I got married my husband and I began hiring movers. We've moved four times together for grad schools and new jobs, and three of those times sounded just like all of these complaints on movers and moving companies. We've been flat out scammed by a guy in a trailer who didn't have us sign a contract and broke a desk, a lot of dishes, and scratched our TV screen (NOT cool). We've had extremely late deliveries that were off by weeks. When we finally moved from San Antonio to Austin, I didn't want to hire anyone. But when you have a houseful and you're trying to do it all in a weekend, what else can you do?
I'm very OCD about my stuff and I was plain sick of things being damaged. I knew I wanted to pack my stuff and planned to do as much as possible so the movers would have a decreased chance to wreck my stuff. We found All My Sons on superpages.com, and I did a TON of research. I found good and bad reviews, I read their website up and down. What sealed the deal was a visit to their office (told you... Ocd). We talked to Jason, who was really nice and, even though we showed up past 6 and he was still talking phone calls throughout our time there, gave us a tour of the storage area and showed us the moving boxes and packing supplies they use.
We worked out the details, and on moving day a crew of two movers showed up in an All My Sons truck (its important that the truck actually has the company's name on it, FYI!). We followed them from the living room where most of our stuff was to the truck a few times to make sure they weren't just throwing boxes in. The movers were really nice and smiled at us and each other (probably mocking my OCD). When one of the crappy boxes I'd used almost folded into itself when a mover picked it up, he promptly set it down, marched to the truck, and came back with a new moving box, packing paper and a roll of tape. He quickly repacked the new box, taped it up and kept going!!! When I asked for the paperwork to look at while they moved the furniture, Rob the mover got it for me right away.
All of our furniture was wrapped until you couldn't see anything but the big quilts they use. They followed us to our new house and Rob got out and gave us an inventory sheet to mark off items as they came off the truck. He also asked for payment, which the paperwork had said would happen before unloading.
They followed my color-coding, so every box made it to the appropriate room. When all was said and done, the move took a little over 4 hours. And the damage? A pair of cereal bowls. That's it!!!
All My Sons did so well. Rob and his crew were fantastic, polite, and never gave me so much as an eye roll even though I know I was annoying and following their every move. They worked so hard, and I'm sure they don't get paid enough. I felt moved to write this long-winded review because, after THREE other moves, it means a lot for a moving company to completely change my opinion of movers. And my opinions are stubborn. Kudos! Give them a chance.
