James Allen Online Jewelry store Received a different diamond than the one purchased

My fiance ordered a 1.7 carat, VS1, G, Excellent cut diamond ring from JamesAllen.com for our engagement ring. The ring arrived and looked beautiful and fantastic. It came with a GIA report and number, we assumed everything was good and valid.

A few days ago, we went to a local jeweler to purchase our wedding ring. We have also decided to add a couple more diamond pieces on the engagement ring purchased from James Allen. The validate the diamonds are authentic, the jeweler asked for the GIA paperwork, and inspected the diamond on my ring. The GIA report # on the paperwork and the laser inscripted number on the diamond of my ring are not the same!

That was shocking! We looked up the laser inscripted number and it proved to be a diamond that is of lesser quality than the one sent to us. The carat, clarity on both diamonds are the same but the details on the cut has discrepancies, as explained to us by our local jeweler, the diamond ordered and paid for was a better diamond than the one we received.

We discovered this over the weekend, and is still working with James Allen to figure out this issue. But for a company that focus on diamonds and precision as their business, I could not imagine how such things could occur? Really?! I would like to caution anyone who is looking to purchase from them online to be really thorough and get their diamonds/jewelries re-appraised. My faith and trust in this company has crumbled based on the evidence of what had happened to us.
