Fraudulant charges, turned off gas without notice when current several times

We recently moved back into our house in Texas and had our gas turned on with TXU Gas, since they are the ONLY gas company. When we had our service turned on, they told us we had an outstanding bill from two years earlier.

We investigated, and found that we had moved and transfered our service from one place to another. We began to dispute this bill, as we had transfered our service and TXU billed us at both addresses; the one we moved from AND the one we were living in.

We were asked to provide certain information to prove that this was a mistake on thier part which we gladly provided. We were also told that we did NOT have to pay the amount we were disputing, only our current gas charges, which we did.

However, TXU then turned our gas off with out giving any sort of a notice. We then called them asking what in the world was going on, reminding them that they had told us we did not have to pay the amount we were disputing, only our current charges.

They said, yes, we are sorry and sent someone out to turn our service back on. The man who came to turn our gas back on red tags us, and says that we have a gas leak. We have to pay for a plumber to come and investigate.

A plumber comes and checks our lines... We have NO leak. We then have to have someone from the city come out and o.K. It, wich we do. Now, we have spent more money than they are trying to charge us, fixing a leak that we don't have, that a TXU man diagnosed.

Our gas is turned back on but we have to pay a $69.00 reconnect fee, even though it was their mistake. My husband called them regularly to find out what was going on with the dispute and faxed them more information on JUly 17th.

I called a few days later to find out the status of our disputed bill. I am told that there is no way to know who has the fax we sent and that it is being worked on. I was told to check back in a few days.

The NEXT day, I recieve a notice from TXU stating that they are going to disconnect my gas service on August 13th if I do not pay (the disputed amount they said I didn't have to pay).

I call them and speak to a superviser and go over the whole story again, for the millionth time. I end up paying the bill by check over the phone because I am tired of messing with them. I told them I would pay it, but that I would report this to every available recourse.

The same day I paid them, they sent someone out to my house and turned my gas off AGAIN without notice. My gas was turned off on the 3rd, the notice said they would turn it off on the 13th if I did not pay (which I did on the phone). I am very upset at the way I have been treated by TXU. We have done everything they have asked us to do, and they are harrassing us. What can we do? There are no other gas companies.

I have heard many other stories like mine. What they are doing is illegal. Please get this story out.
