I answered a CraigsList ad in the business for sale section of someone selling their lawn care landscaping business. To make a long story short met with him and after checking bank deposit slips and the books gave him a deposit to purchase the business. Shortly thereafter I mailed out my introduction letters and 40% of the customers didn't exist either because the mailing address wasn't real, the customer didn't have a lawn service or a different company than the one I was buying was providing service to them.
After sometime I found another report on the internet about Kevin Capps ripping someone else off by "selling his business to them". I contacted them and their story was very similar. Then we met another and another and another all with similar stories.in my opinion there are close to a dozen people that he ripped off.in some cases he sold his business to two different people in the same week!
Then four of us approached the police and they prosecuted him for four counts of felony theft and he was ordered to pay back almost $70,000. [continued below]...
