Someone bought a piano from me and hired Mr. Mover to move it to his house. The moving company scraped the piano down my front steps, damaging the bricks. The movers on site simply said "call the number on the truck". I took photos, called immediately, and sent an email describing the damage. Two weeks later, after being ignored, I emailed again. This time they responded, saying since I had no contract with them (and thereby no rights) and the movers denied the damage anyway, "I was to have a nice day".
I told them in clear terms that they were responsible, that the damage was obvious and documented, and they were outright lying to me about the issue. Then I received another email from someone else offering me a lowball offer on repairs "based on estimates they had received from professionals". I asked for the professional's names three times so that I could contact them and use them for the price.
Of course, no response. I obtained my own estimates, which were double their offer, and sent them a copy demanding that amount. They finally acquiessed, probably just to get rid of me. The Release of Claims required me to get my signature notarized, but they did not even print their last names on the document, even after asking for that information. So, it is not really a legal document. They lied, denied, and attempted to cheat me and the only way I won was that I was not willing to give up. Do not do business with people who have no morals or ethics.
