2012 Anti-Virus software doesn't work. Once I contacted technical support they offered to "sell" me a problem resolution for an additional $59.00

I purchased the latest AVG Anti-Virus 2012 for my computers this weekend. After installing the software I wasn't able to use Internet Explorer. I contacted AVG's technical support and they offered to "sell" me a problem resolution for an additional $59.00. This is a scam, plain-and-simple.
