Verizon Wireless apparently has found a new way to keep customers. They extend contracts so that customers can never switch phone companies without paying a $170.00 fee. I can understand how many wireless companies do this when you get a new phone at a discount. It's ok if it's up front, communicated, and done fairly. But Verison does not do it that way.
Be careful, if you change plans, address, or billing information they will quietly add a year or two to your contract. I found that with my two year old phone. I could not get a new one without paying excessive prices because they had quietly extended my contract when I went from a local to a national plan. I even asked the salesman at the time if they would extend the contract and he said no. But he didn't give me any written protection and when I found out it was too late.
I am so upset that I will pay a cancellation fee of $170.00 just to bid the liars good bye and find another company.
