I was let go as a Nanny at the Fletcher Jones home September. I had worked in his home for only four months, with the verbal expectancy of a year or in his wife's words at least until the kids are in school. The week I was let go Fletcher had been touring Europe on a leisure trip. His wife, Kimberly, has a hard time coping with his absence and was treating every employee horribly. My contracted hours had been from 7:00 or 8:00 am until 7:00 or 8:00 pm with a two hour break between those hours. We have moved from Newport Beach to Idaho at the time Fletcher had taken his vacation.
In Idaho we had been made to work from 7:00 am until 9:00 pm with no break other than eating when we fed the children. Kimberly had come to me and requested that we (myself and the other nannies) did not eat when we fed the children. This being our last source of personal time I presented her with the contracted agreement, bringing it to her attention that I had been willing to do more due to circumstances but did not expect it to last. Kimberly cried and poured out her heart about how much she and Fletcher loved me. She told me things such as she couldn't believe I was doing this to her (what?) because she had expected we would be friends for life and in her words, come to your (my) wedding and send Christmas cards every year. We talked for two hours with nothing resolved other than she told me that they would do anything to keep me including letting the other nannies go. She also told me, your only problem is your too pretty.
The next morning I was fired. It was completely unpredicted and unwarranted. Kimberly immediately called up the nanny agency I had been found through (Nannies Unlimited, American Fork, Utah) and told them lies about my quitting (I suppose to protect herself) I had been under contract with the nanny agency to work for one year. I felt my being fired for unlawful reasons should be investigated so that my need to uphold the contract would be void. The agency however, not wanting to lose this client, told me that I couldn't fight the Jones due to their wealth and promptly sent me to collections over what they felt was our contracted agreement. I turned to Kimberly and found only a person completely unwilling to tell the truth. I found a lawyer who would pick the case up in order that I might clear my name both as a nanny and through the credit agency. I have witnesses willing to tell what happened the week Fletcher went out of town and vouch for my character in general and performance as a nanny. The Jones lawyer however has been completely unwilling to respond or take action. There may be some truth in what my nanny agency had told me (although their purposes were only to maintain a good relationship with a wealthy client).
I cannot fight a multibillionaire to clear my name of $2500 dollars and a bad reputation. The truth is on my side but the power to make or break a person is on theirs. I would not recommend anyone work for this lady. For someone who seemingly has everything, she is greatly lacking in character. She is dishonest, and I believe that says enough.
