Ripoff Turns the happiest time for a bride into a nightmare

I would like to add an account of my experience with Wedding World to those of the others who have had the misfortune of dealing with this company.

My daughter ordered her wedding gown on June 22, for a wedding on May 1. Of course, she was offered a special price and the gown was paid for in full. The requested date for the gown was February 7.

Her bridesmaids took advantage of the special discount offered if all of them called in their orders and paid for their gowns the same day. The bridesmaids' gowns were ordered on September 25, and the bridesmaids were told they would be in around Christmas.

Without giving all the many horrible details of my experience with Wedding World and with the district manager, I will say that seven weeks before the wedding we had no dresses and no idea if or when we would get the dresses. My daughter lives out of state and the bridesmaids live all over the country, so we needed to have the dresses in time to ship them and have alterations done on them.

What made me so angry is that my daughter is ill, and the stress that Wedding World caused was detrimental to her health. She was running around trying to find another bridal gown and trying to find bridesmaids' dresses, which would have to be taken off the rack since there was not time to order new ones.

The Kaufmans do not care what they put brides through at this very emotional time in life, which should be a happy time and not a time filled with anxiety. They are without consciences. They take all the money up front and use it for something other than to buy the dresses. When the dresses are ready for shipment, the manufacturers will not ship them because they are not paid for. The Kaufmans have no incentive to do anything for the customer. They have already been paid in full for doing nothing. They are not looking for repeat business.

Fortunately for us we were tipped off that, if we did not cause a fuss, we would get the dresses a week before the wedding. I was not willing to wait until a week before the wedding to find out if we would have dresses, as apparently other people have done. I contacted an attorney, who notified the Kaufmans that March 13 was the last date we would accept the dresses. I picked up the dresses the evening of March 12 and stood there while they were taken out of the box. They were wrinkled and we lost the money we had paid to have the dresses shipped to other states, but I was not leaving the store without all the dresses in hand.

Coincidentally the seamstress we used had worked for Wedding World at one time. She told us that, had we not hired an attorney, she did not think we would have gotten the dresses. She relayed her experience with Wedding World. She would have to wait three or four months for them to pay her.

To the salespeople who have chastised customers for their behavior in their rebuttals, I would like to say that dealing with Wedding World brings out the absolute worst in a person at a very emotional time. If customers were treated ethically and properly, they would not reach a point where they scream at the salespeople. If one person was deterred from doing business with Wedding World because they heard me vocalizing my frustration, I did a good thing. I would like to see the chain shut down.
