Pet Supermarket
Animal abuse, selling defective products

I had been longing to warn the public about this massive scam artist company for years but was under strict gag orders as I was previously employed with them, no longer. Ever since I quit, I would like people to know the truth about this company. Pet Supermarket has a bunch of stone cold animal abusers in its employ, and I will explain.

The first and foremost priority of this company is generating revenue at any cost. Animals are looked at as stock, appropriately referred to as live stock, there to draw in looky-loo's who may end up remembering to buy dog food. So whenever an animal gets sick, they take it to the back room of death. That's right. Be it a hamster, or a bunny, a lizard, a ferret, or a bird, they all come to die in used or damaged 10 gallon tanks in the back room.

Haven't you ever wondered why their pet health warranty is only 7 days, unlike the competitor stores? So please is you must buy an animal from Pet Supermarket, check it thoroughly to avoid future heartbreak. Speaking from experience, the hamsters often suffered from "wet-tail" an almost always fatal condition, a lot of the bunnies were inbred to the point of neurological damage and prone to seizures, and most of the birds and reptiles arrived infected with mites.

According to a relatively new policy, in place since late all stores carry certain types of anti-biotics as part of their animal care and treatment response. Well, not only are none of the employees instructed on how to administer said medications, they are not even encouraged to learn. Not to mention that they are very broad spectrum and almost never help the animal.

As a former manager, I recall asking time and time again to take a sick or dying animal to the vet, and always being given the same response from the corporate office, wait for their approval. The approval never came, and the animal eventually died without proper medical care. And to add insult to injury the animals were disposed of with the garbage at the end of every work day. This made me sick to my stomach, but with the economy being what it was, I needed a job so I kept on looking the other way.

Furthermore, because of strict store use sanctions put in place by the corporate office, many fish, reptile and other products were taken off the shelf by the staff to be used around the store, and when the product ran out, they would simply re-fill the container with tap water and put it back on the shelf to avoid losing money by damaging it out. This kind of dishonest behavior was condoned and even encouraged by the store manager herself. So the next time you buy anything from that store, even though I would strongly discourage you from doing so, check the seal before leaving.

Also check all the dates on the dog food/cat food bags as this company is notorious for "rotating" its inventory so that expiring, or worse yet already expired products are on top, just waiting for the consumer to grab them. Check for any package damage as well because the company has a huge rodent problem and the employees would often tape over the holes the rats would make in a package with a "$3 off oops sticker". Avoid any possible contamination of your pets food, thoroughly inspect the bag.
