Received invoice from this company through the mail.inVOICE #69707:
Quantity: 1 Telecom Maintenance 1 Year Warranty Amount: $350.00
States at bottom left of invoice, "Please remit to above address".
Of course, there is a disclaimer: "Thank you for your business (what business?). This is not an invoice for services rendered (there's the active word here), but for preventative maintenance on your telephone system."
It's meant and fully intended to be misleading, hoping some office novice will pay the bill without picking up a phone to ask the obvious questions:
1. Show me the contract I signed. Will you fax it over?
2. Do you have a purchase order number?
3. Name of person who authorized this "preventative maintenance".
Folks, do yourself a favor and call the company up and ask those questions!
These worms will try to wriggle and squirm their way out of trouble by hitching themselves to the carefully chosen words in their invoice (which again, states it IS so at the top right portion of the page). To me, THAT's where the fraud is. And they know it, too.
