Continental Square Apartments Know nothing about Customer service or Compassion

When my significant other and I first moved into Continental Square Apartments we immediately should have known things were not going to go well. We had notified the office of our need to move in on the first of the month, they tried to tell us nothing would be ready till the 3rd and this was AFTER we had made the commitment to move there.

Upon turning in our initial move in report we were told things would be fixed that were listed on our report. None of those things were fixed. Paint on the windows, the windows painted shut, curling linoleum around the fridge, etc. Most things were not that bad, I could let slide, but I had to crack the paint to get my windows open myself because it created a fire hazard.

When the season turned and the air conditioning came on, we same as didn't have any air all summer. We put in several "work orders" which were nothing more than a waste of trees. Maintenance would come up piddle around, and almost as soon as they were out the door it was as if they'd done nothing. They claimed that it was because we were upstairs, and I'm sorry but if people are going to be living there it still needs to be habitable, especially when said tenants have medications that have to be kept at decent room temperatures. We tried to confront them about it and threatened to put in our own window unit, but they said they'd still charge us the $25/mo fee for having one even though our air was not working. 80 degrees is not working, and it never got below 75 in the summer and that was on rainy days that weren't 90 outside. There was never more than a 5 degree difference between our apartment and the outside temperature.

Toward the end of our lease, we had a very unfortunate turn of events, an unexpected death in the family. So we went and took care of things, right before labor day. When we returned we were sure they would understand as long as we got our rent payment in as soon as humanly possible. So we did, and they didn't... Totally didn't care that there was a death in the family and that it was labor day the day that rent was due so they weren't open that day, nor were the banks for me to cash my payroll check. They used the excuse of "if we make exceptions for one we have to for all" to which I replied, if someone were in my circumstances right now having proof of a death in the family I would gladly let them have a little slack. Oh, by the way, I was only like 1 hour late with the payment. SMACK $25 late fee.

Also during our residency there some people were keeping potted plants outside and decorating. When we put out our Tibetan Prayer Flags, and did a little decorating of our own, we were met with a letter on the door telling us to take them down that all we were allowed to have was a wreath. When we went to the office explaining that they were religious in nature and there had to be a certain day and ritual to take them down, they did allow us that, but I think that was out of fear of us pushing a religious discrimination suit, which I'm sure they knew what the flags were even though they claimed they did not. We continued to push the issue with them saying others had stuff on their doors and on their front walk, and never once were others forced to remove their things... I am really wishing we hadn't been compliant with their demands for us to take our stuff down.

Every time it benefited them they used the excuse of "we have to be fair to everyone" but then, as a tenant we never saw this "fairness" to anyone. They are out for your money and that's all. They don't care about your comfort, or well being. They just want your money. The lady at the front desk on most days was really nice, and I'm sure she was just doing her job, but the owners forcing her, by fear of losing her job, to enforce these rules, are heartless individuals. We actually really liked the nice lady at the front desk, she was awesome, I'm sorry though that she works for such idiots.

Maybe I'm an idealist, but I feel like if you're going to deal with peoples lives, you need to understand that there are going to be exceptions to your rules and when a good reason for something then exceptions need to be made out of compassion for others.

And the grand finale of the report. Having moved out over thirty days ago, having turned our thirty day notice of intent to vacate in, we still don't know anything about our deposit. We left the apartment in clean conditions, clean enough for the next tenants to just move on in. We were depending on our deposit money for Christmas shopping, but over a month later and no word. We called them and were informed that they don't cut the checks till the end of the month or something like that. So they didn't prorate our last months rent even though we were going to be out 2 weeks before the end of the month, and they didn't return the deposit within thirty days as per request by our written notice of intent.

Don't rent with them, the place is like a pretty blonde, but she has really stinky dirty underwear.
