My husband and I moved to Killeen Texas and were looking for a nice FIRST apt. We looked at a few properties through Hunter Rentals and decided on an apartment. Just like many people who rent from them, we were military and asked upon signing the lease that if my husband got orders to deploy, to just bring them in, no 30 day notice to move out was needed. We never did a move in inspection as this was our first apartment, naive... We didn't know.
My husband got orders to deploy, he took them in and a woman working there told him a 30 day notice was needed! He was leaving in less than a week for Iraq. I had already moved home a couple days before he went into their office. We had paid a 500 dollar deposit to them. A few months after moving out, I got a letter claiming we owed 2200 dollars for damages to the apartment and the extra months rent because we didnt give a 30 day notice. We got charged for every little thing wrong, including wear & tear on the apt.
Also, we were charged for patched holes and a burn stain on the kitchen floor that was there previous to us moving in! They knew they were there and because we had no knowledge of an inspection, they took advantage of us. We had a pet for about a month, even though they weren't allowed. We got rid of it, however in one of the rooms, there were a couple of "accident stains" from that dog. Granted, I understand that charge, but charging us 2300 for things we didn't even do to the apt is just unethical.
We had always paid rent on time every month, one month we went home to North Carolina and the day after rent was due, they called us saying we had to overnight our rent or we would be evicted. They were always rude about every question we ever had and to my husband when showing his deployment orders at the end of our "stay". From what I see from other reports, this company doesn't care about the military families staying in their properties and takes advantage of everyone they can.
Now, my husband and I have an 1800 charge on our credit after taking out our 500 deposit off the 2300 accusation. I highly encourage any one to NOT rent from this company! They just don't care. That's the way to treat American Soldiers and their families!
