My mother, a pensioner, took a silver and diamond necklace insured for 6,000 to Tempus jewllers in Exmouth for cleaning. The item returned to her was worthless costume Jewellery. The police said they had known about the scam artist (suspected of replacing expensive quartz crystals in Swiss watches with cheap crystals without customers knowledge) for years but had not been able to prosecute. A court judge awarded my mother part of the value of the necklace but there was no guilty verdict for the press to warn other local pensioners. The jewellery business is growing rapidly.
