There is a story behind our restaurant closure. We were victims of a scam artist. Yes, a scam artist. The following story is a horror story that I want to share with the community of Pomona and its surrounding Cities. Youmust be aware that Victor Hernandez the owner of Victor's Radiators is the owner and the landlord of the old wienernietzel building which became La Villita Mexican Restaurant in of May.
When we took over on July of Victor refused to give us a lease because he was holding a lease with somebody else, Victor only wanted to sublease the property located at 1382 w. Holt Ave, Pomona CA 91768. Victor was forced to sign a new lease with us becase we had a hard time getting the utilities under our name. Since the first month we informed
Victor that his rent was too high and he had no comparables to justify how much he was charging us. The lease was $1,800 a month with no utilities included. What a rip off, the building it's only about 400sq feet or less. That is about $5.00 per sq. Foot. That is insane. We tried to negociate the lease to a lower amount for a good few months but no
luck!!! Victor never agreed.
Victor also owns the AMCO shop right across from La Villita which is about 5 times bigger than our building, their rent is between $ 2,500 no $3,000 maximum. The rent became very expensive and unaffordable after almost 6 months in the
business. Victor Hernandez never showed compassion or even interest in helping our new business. Since we saw no cooperation from Victor on Nov 30th he called us to ask about Decembers rent. We suggested that we should sell the restaurant. Also in December 5th I saw him in person and we againg suggested that I should sell my place again. He offered to sign a new lease to the new tenants without a problem. With his advise and approval we proceeded confidently to seek buyers for our place. After a few weeks we got an offer from a very interested buyer.
We wanted to accept the offer and as soon as we had an offer we notified Victor about it. He explained him that we had a buyer and that the reason why we were selling was because his rent was not justified and it had become an inconvenience after so many months. When we told him this he yelled at us and told us that he wasn't going to let us sale the restaurant.
He also mentioned that he currently holds another lease with another tenant. He said he did not care whether or not we
sold because he hs his other tenant who is willing to take over as soon as we surrender the property. His old tenant is someone who has scammed and ripped off a lot of people with the same restaurant. La Villita has had several names in the past and different owners that got ripped off as well. This taco shop was once called, BETITOS, TACO EL SABROSITO, that's what I can recall prior to us. Victor said that he was the owner to the building and he had the right to do whatever he
wanted. What an A*HOLE!!! Excuse my language. We disregarded his comment we thought it was only the heat of the moment. But to my surprise, on December 13th when I met with the buyers to finalize the sale, they informed me that Victor Hernandez had advised not to buy our business because it was a bad investment. He also told
them that our business had no traffic and it was always dead. When I met with the buyers they just walked away. I realized that Victor Hernandez from Victor's radiator IS A SCAM ARTIST ALONG WITH HIS ASSOCIATE. They lease the Taco Shop for a unaffordable rate to push people out of business. Once the property is vacant they sublease it to whoever is interested. They ask the people for a down payment for the business between $ 5,000 to $ 10,000 plus a deposit for the lease. When people default they kick them out as they please keeping all of their money. This is a quick way to make some extra cash on the side, when things go bad in his business. Victor Hernandez is the master mind and always participates in the scam. If you know anyone who is interested in leasing the place, PLEASE MAKE THEM AWARE OF THE SITUATION. Do not fall for his scam. Stay away from him. It's very sad to see how a guy that's supposed to have a very reputable business like VICTOR'S RADIATORS is nothing more that a STRAIGHT CROOK.
